Wishlist

Keep a priority list of books you want to add to your library next — separate from the Want to Read reading status, which only applies to books you already own.

Wishlist vs. "Want to Read"

These are two different things, easy to confuse at first:

Wishlist Want to Read
Applies to Books not yet in your library Books already catalogued as owned copies
Purpose "I want to buy/borrow this" "I own it, haven't started it yet"
Has a location (room/shelf)? No Yes

Use the Wishlist for books you're planning to get; once you actually own a copy, add it to your library (see below) — at that point it behaves like any other book, including reading status.

Adding a Book to Your Wishlist

  1. Open Wishlist (sidebar)
  2. Click Add to Wishlist
  3. Enter the title, author, and (optionally) an ISBN if you already know it
  4. Click Save

Wishlist entries are lightweight — they don't need a location, publisher, or any of the other bibliographic details a catalogued book has.

Prioritizing Your Wishlist

Wishlist items are ranked so you can tell your library what to look for next:

  1. Open Wishlist
  2. Reorder items (drag, or use the priority controls) to reflect what you want most

Turning a Wishlist Item Into a Book

Once you've actually acquired the book:

  1. Open Wishlist
  2. Find the item and click Add to Library
  3. The Add Book form opens, pre-filled with the wishlist entry's title/author
  4. Look it up by ISBN if you have one now, or keep the details as entered
  5. Assign a location (room → bookcase → shelf) and click Save

The item is automatically removed from your wishlist once the book is successfully added — you don't need to delete it separately.

See Managing Your Library → Add From Your Wishlist for the same flow from the library side.

Removing a Wishlist Item

If you've changed your mind about a book:

  1. Open Wishlist
  2. Find the item
  3. Click Remove (trash icon)

This only removes it from the wishlist — it has no effect on your library (there's nothing to remove from the catalog, since the item was never catalogued).

Who Can Manage the Wishlist

Adding, reordering, and removing wishlist items follows the same permissions as adding books: Admin and Editor roles can manage it. Viewers can browse the wishlist but can't change it.
